Despite the stumble, Bolivia’s Supreme Court has the chance to redeem itself—or fail in the attempt
The release of Marco Pumari and the granting of house arrest to Luis Fernando Camacho not only reignited the opposition in Santa Cruz and Potosí, but also placed Bolivia’s Supreme Court at a crossroads. After mistakenly applying the review of pretrial detention only to three emblematic cases, the challenge ahead is clear: to prove that justice in Bolivia does not serve political parties, but instead acts with impartiality, without privileges, and with the speed that the law requires for all citizens.
